I am a huge fan of Specific Carbohydrate Diet. I would encourage anyone with ibd to give it a go but first do your research and understand why diet is so important. “Breaking the Vicious Circle” by Elaine Gottchall is a great read. It really has given me my life back after reaching the end of the road with Crohns. My young daughter who has crohns does diet restriction too. I would like to think that after 3 years since her diagnosis its not a coincidence that she is very well. Anyone who would like to know more is welcome to contact me. Do your research!
That was supposed to read “Breaking the Vicious Cycle”, apologies.
Thanks Hazel
Hazel i can back up your post above. My daughter was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis during the summer. She is on the SCD (Specific Carbohydrate Diet)for the past month and her symptoms subsided and her appetite and the energy levels are back:).She is currently taking only the anti-inflammatory tablets, no steroids:). I will definitely recommend that for both Crohns and UC sufferers, but the SCD diet is not for the faint hearts:). Links below for those interested:
